Hi! Welcome to the Vegan in Italy blog!

I’m Darla. I’ve been vegan for over 20 years. I grew up in the United States, but I’ve lived in Europe for 10 years, 7 of those in Italy.

In my years in Italy, two things have happened:

  • I’ve been incredibly homesick for some American foods in a way I never expected
  • I’ve learned a lot about traditional Italian foods — and learned that there’s a lot more to Italian food than what you see in the standard American narrative

In this blog, I’ll explore both sides of this – sharing some interesting new Italian recipes and traditions that I’ve learned (veganized as necessary, of course!), as well as share completely from scratch recipes to replace American foods that I miss.

This is a vegan food-oriented exploration of what it means to be between cultures — not really culturally American, but definitely not Italian either. Plus – hopefully! – lots of delicious recipes! 🙂

This is not a health food blog. I won’t post boring but healthy everyday food – I’ll post the “special” or interesting foods.
